The event is to raise money for survivors of the Nepal earthquake which struck on 25th April 2015. The Fine & Country Foundation has spent the last 18 months working to rebuild a remote hillside village called Thangpalkot1. In this village, 86 of the 94 houses were flattened, forcing the villagers to live in unstable, unsafe and uninhabitable shacks for the last three winters and monsoons.
Our partnership with Campbells Foundation in Nepal has helped more than 60 houses to be funded and built. We are now in the last stage of our housing mission. In May, a group of trekkers walked from Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, to Thangpalkot1 and spent a few days in the village. Each of the trekkers is raising money to fund a whole house. The money raised from the quiz night will help to complete these houses.
Every penny raised goes directly into the village. £1,800 pays for the building supplies for an entire house, and includes the truck to transport the materials from Kathmandu to the village. Once the supplies arrive, it only takes the villagers, labourers and volunteers 3-4 weeks to build a house. The monsoons began at the end of May so our aim is to ensure that these are the last monsoons the villagers need to experience in leaking shacks.
