Fine & Country Mauritius tackle the Dodo Trail

Fine & Country Mauritius tackle the Dodo Trail

Yes, you read that correctly. This event is called the Dodo Trail.

Olivia Bathfield and Paul Schwab from Fine & Country Mauritius will take part in a 10km race with a difference. Unlike most races in the UK which take place in parks, along roads and occasionally down country lanes, the Dodo Trail is a little more adventurous.

The route will take the competitors along dirt roads, single tracks and up tough ascents, taking in breath-taking landscapes.

The intensity of the race is shown in the time it take to complete. In the UK, the winner of 10km races has often completed the route in around 40 minutes, but at the Dodo Trail, the winner is expected to take 1 hour 15 minutes.

Olivia and Paul are raising money for a family in Mauritius whose home was destroyed when cyclone Berguitta struck in January 2018. Their household items and possessions were broken or drowned by the heavy winds and rain.

The family of seven includes one grandmother, two parents and their four children. The children are aged between 10 and 18 years old. Three of the children are in education. The eldest child is disabled and unable to work.

The National Empowerment Foundation constructed a temporary 12x12 ft room of corrugated iron sheets and wood to house the family of seven. There is no toilet, bathroom or kitchen, making the living situation unbearable and unsafe.

The Fine & Country Foundation gave Caritas Ile Maurice a grant of £2,921 to provide two new toilets and sanitary facilities for a family in May 2018. Fine & Country Mauritius continues to support cyclone survivors, so are raising donations to provide the family with much-needed provisions.
