10 Wet Wallys sitting in a boat

10 Wet Wallys sitting in a boat

On Saturday 9th September 10 people from GPEA Ltd will be taking part in one of Cambridge’s biggest attractions of the year. Step aside punters, it is time for the Dragon Boat Race!

We have had volunteers taking part in the Dragon Boat Race for the past four years and this year is expected to be bigger, better and wackier than ever before. Last year the team came in 13th place, only one position off the qualifiers.

The team is aptly called ‘10 Wet Wallys sitting in a boat’ and they will all be dressed as Where’s Wally. The group will be rowing down the River Cam in Fen Ditton in stripy t-shirts and red bobble hats.

Marcus Whewell, CEO of GPEA Ltd said, “It is fantastic that GPEA can contribute to big and worthy causes and that the Fine & Country Foundation provides us with the opportunity to do this. It is a great day out with friends and colleagues and one of the highlights of my year.

“Last year we were so close to getting into the qualifier stage so I have high expectations that we will do better this year.”

In addition to the boat race, the rowers are also competing to win the dress-up competition. Last year the team were called the Retro Rivers Ravers and stood out of the crowd in their neon and punk outfits.

The team are raising money for The Fine & Country Foundation to help reduce homelessness. All money raised will go into our grant pot which homeless charities can apply for in October. Full details on the process, eligibility and Terms and Conditions will be announced shortly.
